President of the Senate and Vice-President of Argentina, Ms. Gabriela Michetti, visited the Danish Parliament on Wednesday 2 May. She learned about the current renovation of The Chamber, met with The Presidium and the Speaker of the Danish Parliament.
When she arrived, Vice-President Gabriela Michetti was given an introduction to The Chamber of the Danish Parliament. The Chamber is currently under renovation so it will be more accessible for people with physical handicaps. During the summer 2018, a lift will be installed by the speakers-platform, so wheelchair users can use the platform on equal terms as other users. The question regarding handicap-friendly conditions in the Parliament has great relevance to Michetti. When she was young, she was involved in a car accident and has been a wheelchair user throughout her entire political career.
After learning about the renovation of The Chamber, Vice-President Michetti met with The Presidium of the Danish Parliament. They exchanged parliamentary experiences and discussed current political affairs. Argentina is in the middle of a process of change, and the country is specifically focusing on combating corruption. Vice-President Michetti was therefore very interested in learning more about the Danish perspective on enquiry commissions as an instrument for the Parliament to supervise the government.
As is tradition with official visits, Vice-President Michetti wrote in the Danish Parliament’s guest book. She emphasized, that Denmark and Argentina share a number of values and can learn a great deal from each other.
The Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Pia Kjærsgaard, accompanied Vice-President Michetti to her audience at the Danish Queen Margrethe the Second.
