Three Islamic speakers not allowed to enter the Netherlands

Three foreign Islamic speakers who were due to speak at an event in Utrecht on Saturday 22 February 2025 have been barred from entering the Netherlands. This was decided by Minister Faber (Asylum and Migration) after consultation with Minister Van Weel (Justice and Security).

Reasons for the refusal include objectionable statements the speakers have made in the past about women and gays, among other things. They also trivialised sexual intercourse with minors and one of the speakers denied the Hamas terrorist attack on 7 October 2023.

These statements could contribute to a climate of hatred, hostility and glorification of violence. The arrival of the speakers, who were to speak at an event at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, is therefore unwelcome.

Minister Marjolein Faber (Asylum and Migration): “It is unacceptable that Islamic speakers want to abuse our freedom by making hate speeches. The Netherlands must be steadfast in its suppression of hatred, aggression and violence.”
