“We stand together with the Ukrainian people and will continue to do our utmost to support them,” said Minister Faeser after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the federal security cabinet in the Federal Chancellery. “In addition to military support to help Ukraine defend itself against Russia’s brutal attacks, we provide extensive civilian and humanitarian assistance. This is a humanitarian imperative.”

Biggest logistical operation in the history of the THW

Germany provides extensive civilian and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. The relief effort by the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) during Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has become the largest logistical operation in the Agency’s history. Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression, Germany has made 419 deliveries of relief supplies (348 directly for Ukraine and the others to neighbouring countries).

Germany has so far provided Ukraine with civil protection aid worth around 206 million euros. This includes supplies and equipment such as

• medical supplies,
• medicines,
• fire engines,
• bulldozers and construction machinery,
• respiratory gear and other firefighting equipment,
• protective equipment in case of a chemical, biological,
• radiological, or nuclear threat, and
• goods to support the energy sector.

Ukrainian president’s first visit to Germany

On the morning of the meeting at the Federal Chancellery, Federal President Steinmeier welcomed the Ukrainian president at Bellevue Palace. In the afternoon, the Ukrainian president and Ukrainian people were awarded the International Charlemagne Prize in Aachen.
