Denmark releases its second Voluntary National Review ahead of the UN’s SDG follow-up
12-06-2021
Denmark is prepared for the second round of follow-ups on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals – and in July, Minister of Finance Nicolai Wammen will be joined by an array of stakeholders to present Denmark’s wide-ranging efforts to achieve the SDGs.
In addition to a recently launched action plan for the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Denmark has now released its second Voluntary National Review (VNR) ahead of the annual meeting of the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in July. The HLPF brings together UN member states in a forum where they take turns presenting their progress in implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
Denmark has championed the sustainable agenda long before the 193 UN member states joined together in 2015 to adopt the 17 SDGs. Yet although Denmark is at the forefront of efforts to reach the ambitious goals, additional action is still needed. Particular focus must be given to the areas where Denmark is further from achieving the SDGs. Denmark’s second VNR includes assessments by both the Danish Government and Danish civil society actors of the nation’s progress towards reaching each of the SDGs.
Denmark’s VNR was prepared in a collaboration between the Government and members of parliament, municipalities, regions, businesses, youth, civil society actors, and academic institutions. The report presents efforts being made throughout Danish society to achieve the goals.
