The Danish Parliament marked the anniversary of the war in Ukraine

Sympathy and thoughts were with the Ukrainian people on 24 February 2023, when the Danish Parliament marked the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The Danish Parliament hosted a service in Holmen’s Church with speeches by the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Søren Gade, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and the Ukrainian Ambassador to Denmark, Mykhailo Vydoinyk.

Provost Birgitte Kvist Poulsen delivered a sermon, and the Ukrainian-Orthodox Army Chaplain, flown in from Kyiv, Father Sergiy Berezhnoy said a prayer. The choir sang the State Anthem of Ukraine.

Furthermore, the Danish Parliament hoisted the Ukrainian flag over the main entrance, and the tower of Christiansborg, where the Danish Parliament has office, was lit up in yellow and blue to show solidarity with Ukraine.

The Speaker of the Danish Parliament also used the anniversary to invite the Ukrainian ambassador to Denmark to take part in the next meeting of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, held in Denmark later this year.

»One year ago Russia made an unprovoked attack on Ukraine. With this assault, Russia is disregarding the international rule of law and Ukraine’s right to determine its own destiny. The day’s activities of the Danish Parliament send the strong message that all 12 political parties in Parliament are supporting Ukraine’s fight for freedom,« says the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Søren Gade.
