Catherine Colonna’s participation in the informal meeting of European Union foreign affairs ministers in the Gymnich format (30-31 August 2023)

Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, is participating today and tomorrow in the informal meeting of European Union foreign affairs ministers (Gymnich) in Toledo. She will be accompanied by her Ukrainian counterpart, Mr Dmytro Kuleba, who participated as guest of honour in the Ambassadors’ Conference.

On the eve of the United Nations General Assembly’s High-Level Week, the Minister will call for us to maintain our efforts to convince third countries by supporting the Ukrainian peace plan aimed at ensuring a fair, lasting peace, and continuing to work for global food security, particularly through the Solidarity Lanes.

The Minister will also call for secure, long-term support for Ukraine, particularly military support, and will have a discussion with her counterparts on implementing the commitments to Ukraine’s security made by the European Union at the European Council in June 2023.

Regarding the attempted coup in Niger, the Minister will reiterate our call to restore the constitutional order under President Bazoum, the only legitimate authority. She will recall the need for full European support to be provided for ECOWAS’s actions, as President Macron reaffirmed on Monday in his speech to ambassadors.
