Election of the Panamanian candidate to the IMO (18 july 2023)

The Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) elected a new secretary-general of the Organization at its 129th session in London on 18 July.

France extends its warm congratulations to Mr Arsenio Dominguez and looks forward to collaborating with him. It thanks Mr Kitack Lim for the cooperation established with France throughout his two terms.

On 7 July the IMO Member States adopted a historic decision to decarbonize international maritime transport, with a net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions target by 2050.

France, as a member of the IMO Council since its creation, stands alongside the new Secretary-General to implement this new strategy and make progress on the ecological transition of international maritime transport.
