Israel/Palestinian Territories – Situation in Jenin (4 July 2023)

France expresses its concern over the very heavy human toll of the military operations in Jenin.

Israel’s security requirements cannot exempt it from complying with its international obligations under humanitarian law, including the necessity of protecting civilians in the Occupied Territories and using force proportionately. France calls on Israel to refrain from measures which add to the risk of violence escalating, and to facilitate the evacuation of wounded people.

This violence is yet another reminder of the urgent need to restore a credible political horizon to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the basis of a solution of two States living side by side in peace and security – the only solution which can bring about a just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
