Partial destruction of the Kakhovka dam (6 June 2023)

The partial destruction of the Kakhovka dam last night is a particularly serious act. It once again illustrates the tragic consequences of an aggression for which Russia bears sole responsibility.

France voices its deep concerns about the humanitarian and environmental impact of the destruction on the Ukrainian people affected, and on the safety of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. It is closely following the situation concerning the plant and expresses its wholehearted support for the IAEA Director General in his efforts to preserve its integrity.

France will continue to denounce and condemn the illegal war of aggression Russia is waging against Ukraine in flagrant violation of international law and to call for the complete, immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Russian armed forces from all Ukrainian territory. France is ready to assist the Ukrainian authorities in responding to the consequences of the dam’s partial destruction.
