Participation of the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs in the high-level event to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the UN LGBTI Core Group (18 september 2023)

Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, participated in the high-level event to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the United Nations LGBTI Core Group in New York on 18 September 2023, during the 78th session of the General Assembly. It was the first time a French foreign minister has participated in the group.

The Minister announced there that a €2-million fund would be set up to support those men and women defending the rights of LGBT+ people daily throughout the world, at times risking their lives.

France reiterates its commitment to the universal decriminalization of homosexuality and the defence of LGBT+ people’s rights, and condemns the acts of violence and the hate speech to which they are subjected.

France welcomes the essential efforts of the Group and the Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
