Terrorist attack in Israel (8 october 2023)

Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, is continuing her contacts in the context of the terrorist attack still under way against Israel.

After telephone calls yesterday to her Israeli and Palestinian counterparts in particular, as well as those from Egypt and Jordan, she spoke today to her Emirati, Saudi and Qatari counterparts.

To all of them, and in response to an unprecedented terrorist attack, she emphasized Israel’s right to defend itself. France is also making active efforts to prevent the conflict from degenerating into a conflagration in the West Bank, Lebanon or the region.

Hamas’s appalling hostage-taking of men, women and children serves as a reminder, were it needed, of the terrorist nature of the movement. France calls for their immediate and unconditional release.

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs remains in close contact with her counterparts.
