Appointments of ministers and state secretaries

Announcement by the King’s Office

Today, 5 September 2025, His Majesty the King made the following appointments on the recommendation of Prime Minister Dick Schoof with effect from 5 September 2025:

  • David van Weel, Minister of Foreign Affairs;
  • Foort van Oosten, Minister of Justice and Security;
  • Frank Rijkaart, Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations;
  • Gouke Moes, Minister of Education, Culture and Science;
  • Mariëlle Paul, Minister of Social Affairs and Employment;
  • Jan Anthonie Bruijn, Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport;

 as well as:

  • Aukje de Vries, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development;
  • Arno Rutte, Minister for Legal Protection;
  • Koen Becking, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education and Equal Opportunities;
  • Eugène Heijnen, Minister for Tax Affairs, the Tax Administration and Customs, and
  • Sandra Palmen, Minister for Benefits and Redress.

In connection with these new appointments:

  • Mona Keijzer has been relieved of the temporary management of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment;
  • Ruben Brekelmans has been relieved of the temporary management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
  • David van Weel has been relieved of the leadership of the Ministry of Justice and Security and the temporary management of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations;
  • Sophie Hermans has been relieved of the temporary management of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science;
  • Robert Tieman has been relieved of the temporary management of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment;
  • Mariëlle Paul has been honourably discharged as Minister for Primary and Secondary Education and Equal Opportunities.

The appointments were occasioned by the resignation on 22 August 2025 of the ministers and state secretaries belonging to the party New Social Contract (NSC). Since 3 June 2025 the government has functioned in a caretaker capacity. The Prime Minister and the ministers and state secretaries tendered their resignations to the King. The King requested the ministers and state secretaries to continue doing all that they deemed necessary in the Kingdom’s interest.

The new ministers and state secretaries were sworn in this morning before the King at Huis ten Bosch Palace.
