Resignation of New Social Contract (NSC) ministers and state secretaries
Announcement by the King’s Office
On Friday evening 22 August 2025 Prime Minister Dick Schoof informed His Majesty the King about the cabinet meeting of 22 August and the subsequent decision by the NSC members of the government to request the King to accept their resignations with immediate effect.
On the recommendation of the Prime Minister and with effect from 22 August 2025, the King honourably discharged the NSC ministers and state secretaries:
- Eddy van Hijum, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Employment;
- Caspar Veldkamp, Minister of Foreign Affairs;
- Judith Uitermark, Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations;
- Eppo Bruins, Minister of Education, Culture and Science;
- Daniëlle Jansen, Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport;
and
- Hanneke Boerma, State Secretary for Foreign Trade;
- Teun Struycken, State Secretary for Legal Protection;
- Tjebbe van Oostenbruggen, State Secretary for Tax Affairs, the Tax Administration and Customs;
- Sandra Palmen, State Secretary for Benefits and Redress.
From 22 August 2025 until other arrangements are made, the following ministries will be headed by the following ministers:
- Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment: Mona Keijzer;
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Ruben Brekelmans;
- Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations: David van Weel;
- Ministry of Education, Culture and Science: Sophie Hermans;
- Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport: Robert Tieman.
