Georgia – Impeachment proceedings against Georgian President Salome Zourabishvili (17 october 2023)

France has taken note of the Supreme Court of Georgia’s decision to authorize the impeachment proceedings against Georgian President Salome Zourabishvili initiated by the parliamentary majority with support from the government.

Coming at a crucial juncture for the country’s future, when unity and cohesion around European values must prevail, France expects the Georgian government to act responsibly and focus its efforts on implementing all necessary reforms to strengthen democracy and the rule of law, notably in accordance with the 12 priorities set out by the Commission.
